3 Fun Nihilistic Horror Things To Enjoy If You Hate The Holidays

Tbh I love the holidays. But they still bring up a lot of messy memories of familial dysfunction and trauma. The holiday season being a shit time is pretty common for the same or similar reasons for countless others, not to mention the excessive and soul-crushing reality of capitalism during December. I doubt you need me to tell you that.

So here are some fun, if terribly morbid, examples of horror for you to check out. (And by fun I mean fun. Martyrs and other New French/European Extremity horror movies will not be on here, because those are purely nihilistic and only good as feel-bad films.) I’m sticking to 3 things for now, but I may do a follow-up list in the future.

THTJB isn’t a run-of-the-mill serial killer film. It’s an art house movie with strange, dark sense of humour that leaves you unsure if it’s really okay to be laughing. His narration and actions aren’t really culminating into anything of meaning or significance until the end of the movie. In the last 20ish minutes the film breaks with the seemingly normal reality it was set in to give the audience an unexpected and unforgettable ending. This movie didn’t get particularly good reviews, and it’s director is one of the most hated and controversial directors in the film industry. But in spite of those things, this is definitely worth a watch if you love horror movies. (TW for child death, misogyny, and animal mutilation.)
